Pieterson predicts third CSK win in IPL 6
May 6, 2013
Every individual who has followed the Indian Premier League during its
existence of half a decade since its inception in 2008 would vouch for
the fact that Chennai Super Kings has been the most consistent team in
the league until now. Before the beginning of IPL 6, CSK have staked
claim to the IPL title twice, twice been the runners-up for the
tournament and once semi-finalist. CSK, the only team to have the same
captain in all the six seasons of the league including the ongoing
edition, are providing justice to their title, of most consistently
performing team of the league, during this edition as well.
Halfway to the tournament, Chennai Super Kings are in radiating form and have won 9 out of their 11 encounters in this season until yet. They are at the top of the points table, having amassed 18 points in 11 matches; no other team has even got 16 points in their kitty. It is obvious that they are through the hurdle of qualifiers and would surely be seen in the top four teams of the season.
Hence, it comes as no doubt that English cricketer Kevin Pieterson has predicted a CSK win in IPL 6. Pieterson plays for Delhi Daredevils, but has not been a part of the ongoing edition of the IPL since he is nursing a knee injury. The injury has even casted doubts on the participation of the southpaw in the Champions Trophy next month to be hosted in his home country, England.

Buzz over Sachin Tendulkar's first match in Himachal
Tendulkar's fans are desperately awaiting his first ever match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association's (HPCA) sole venue, located at an altitude of 4,000 feet above sea level here, on May 18 when Mumbai Indians take on Kings XI Punjab.
His fans are desperately awaiting his first ever match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association's (HPCA) sole venue, located at an altitude of 4,000 feet above sea level here, on May 18 when Mumbai Indians take on Kings XI Punjab.
"Most of the tickets for the second IPL match here have been sold out well in advance. Only a handful of tickets, that too in the expensive blocks, are available," HPCA press secretary Mohit Sood said.
He said it's only the craze of the fans to witness Tendulkar's batting in the newly-constructed international ground that has created the buzz.
"The demand for tickets for the second match is more compared to the first one (Delhi Daredevils versus Kings XI Punjab May 16)," he added.
Over 21,000 people are expected to witness the second and the last match of the IPL-6 season here.
"Of course, it's a proud moment for the organisers too to see Tendulkar in action here for the first time," HPCA president Anurag Thakur, a member of the Lok Sabha, told IANS.
He said even Ricky Pointing, Mumbai Indians skipper, would also be seen in action (in Dharamsala) for the first time -- though whether he starts the game remains to be seen.
"We are working to make it a memorable event," added Thakur, the man behind the Rs.100-crore stadium and ultra-luxury residential complex.
This picturesque Himalayan hill station, which has lured hundreds of thousands of Westerners since Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama settled here in 1960, witnessed its first international ODI between India and England Jan 27.
The stadium, 250 km from state capital Shimla, has a 21,600-seating capacity, besides a world-class indoor stadium comprising video analysis facilities for both bowlers and players, a club lounge, restaurant, bar and banquet hall.
"We have procured the tickets well in advance. Now we are preparing placards and banners to greet the god of cricket in the land of gods (Himachal Pradesh)," cricket buff Shruti Sharma and her friends said.
The popularity of the venue soared after seven IPL matches were held here in the past three seasons.
Match organisers said the players would stay in the Pavilion residential complex, overlooking the stadium. It has 32 huts made of imported wood and 38 concrete rooms.
However, the HPCA admits that the spectators might face problems in getting suitable accommodation.
The town has 56 registered hotels and guest houses with a bed capacity of 1,100. Similarly, McLeodganj, eight kilometres from Dharamsala, has around 91 registered hotels which can accommodate 1,000 people.
Caribbean Premier League can spur cricket growth: Michael Holding
Bridgetown, Barbados: Former
West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding believes the Caribbean Premier
League (CPL) represents an excellent opportunity for the development of
professional cricket in the region.
The 59-year-old, known for his strident criticism of the shortest form of the game, said the CPL was special as it had the potential to give birth to a new generation of professional cricketers in the Caribbean. He has signed on as the ambassador for the development programme, reports CMC.
"I think cricket has lost a lot of young people in the Caribbean who are thinking 'why bother with cricket because unless you are playing for the West Indies then there is nothing there for you'," said the former pacer who took 249 wickets in 60 Tests.
"The advent of the CPL means West Indian youngsters can now think to themselves 'hey, I can make a reasonably good living from playing cricket.' Now there is something here in the Caribbean they can play in, they can make a reasonable living and they can go on and play cricket again."
The cash-rich CPL is set to bowl off in July, with franchises based in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago.
Each outfit is stipulated to have 11 of their 15 players qualified to play for the West Indies, with four required to be under the age of 23.
Holding said it was clear the CPL's objectives would result in new international players being identified and properly developed, even for the longer forms of the game.
"The CPL is looking at a development programme which they will start rolling out in January 2014, I understand," said Holding, now an internationally renowned broadcaster.
"They will have about 60 young cricketers, 10 from each of the six franchise regions, who they will put on contract and create programmes to improve their cricket. That is what I am interested in."

Kolkata Knight Riders missing quality, admits Gautam Gambhir
Mumbai: A
visibly disappointed Kolkata Knight Riders' skipper Gautam Gambhir rued
the lack of quality cricket from his side in this edition of the Indian
Premier League. This after losing to Mumbai Indians by 65 runs - a
result which effectively takes the defending champions out of contention
for the play-offs.
Chasing 170, Kolkata's batting came apart at the seams with Gambhir
himself unable to score. "If you do not play smart cricket, if you do
not play quality cricket, this is what happens. I do not think it is a
jinx (a dismal record in playing away matches). When I look around the
dressing room, I see a lot of quality players. It is about putting the
best XI on the field," he said after the match.
Asked what his plans were for the remaining matches in the tournament, Gambhir said it was playing well and finishing on a good note. "Even today, before the match, I said we should not look too far ahead. We have four games to go now and will look to win those."
Kolkata now have lost eight matches of their twelve so far in this edition, still lying a lowly seventh in the points table.
